Design of Experiments is a test or sequence of tests where potential influential process variables are systematically changed according to a prescribed design matrix.
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis is a disciplined review and analysis of a new or revised process and is conducted to anticipate, resolve, or monitor potential process problems for the specific new or revised product program under analysis.
Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (Gage R&R)
The combined estimate of measurement system repeatability and reproducibility assesses measurement system capability depending on the method used and may or may not include the effects of time.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances state the maximum allowable variations of a form or its position from the perfect geometry implied on the drawing. These tolerances specify either the diameter or the width of a tolerance zone within which a surface or the axis of a cylinder or a hole must be if the part is to meet the required accuracy for proper function and fit.
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) is a quality framework used for developing new products in the automotive industry. It can be applied to any industry and is similar in many respects to the concept of design for Six Sigma (DFSS). The purpose of the APQP Process is to produce a product quality plan, which will support development of a product or service that will satisfy the customer.
Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Irreversible Corrective Action
Root Cause Analysis is a term used to denote a class of problem solving methods aimed at identifying the root causes of problems or events. The practice of RCA is predicated on the belief that problems are best solved by attempting to correct or eliminate root causes, as opposed to merely addressing the immediately obvious symptoms. By directing irreversable corrective measures at root causes, the likelihood of problem recurrence will be minimized. However, it is recognized that complete prevention of recurrence by a single intervention is not always possible.
