Grants Available: On-the-Job Training

Continental Inc., working with Work One, has obtained several OJT (On-the-Job Training) Grants worth thousands of dollars each for its clients. Work One currently has funds to help companies hire workers who have been laid off and been unable to find commensurate employment or are working at a company that has formally announced its closure. These OJT grants will reimburse the company up to 50% of the new hire’s wages during their job training, which may last as much as 6 months. »Read More

A few years ago we took over making service parts for a complex automotive component. We were given a list of parts suppliers, one of which was in China. Our Purchasing Manager, Ed Farmer,* passed along some key lessons he learned when dealing with Chinese suppliers.

Ed told me, “It is a common practice for Asians to take an English first name and keep their own last name. I guess they consider their English speaking customers will be more comfortable with an English name. This supplier’s English name was Neil and his factory was in Shanghai, so we nicknamed him Shanghai Neil.” »Read More
